Managing a hotel is not an easy task where you have to pay a lot of attention to many things at once.
As previous post, I have mentioned about the departments in hotel. Therefore, there is a lot of stuff need to be handled at once.
Firstly, you need to start a well-trained staff and monitor their work consistently. As a manager, you need to understand the need of your customer and maintain their satisfaction.
There are some tips to help you get your hotel become organized and be better!!
01 Understand you staff
Before you have done everything, you have to maintain the most important asset-- staff in handling hotel well. This is because you can't handle all the staff ALONE!!
- Figure out and planning
- Every departments' job description
- Staff's daily routine
- Communicate regularly with staff
- Maintain regular dialogue with your staff
- Obtain feedback about the quality of their work
- Motivate your staff
- By providing a reasonable remuneration package and benefits
- Host occasional events for your staff
- Recognize staff publicly for good work
- Promote the best staff of the month/ year
02 Delegate
Delegation is a main mission to the daily management in hotel.
As manager should
- Oversee all departments
- Monitor the job performance of staff
- To check on the level of professionalism
- Check all the report that every department send
- Providing continued training for staff to encourage improvement
03 Providing the best for your guests
First impression is very important to your guests. Hence, the front desk staff is very important to a hotel.The staff etiquette has to be trained consistently to provide a friendly and warm welcoming to guests. A hotel staff should be able to answer and fix most of the question of the guests, such as the nearby attraction or the problem in the hotel room.
Additionally, the hygiene in hotel is one of the important issue. Customers always expect the hygiene in a hotel room. Housekeeping regularly can be daily "must" task in hotel to make sure the standard of the hotel. Apart from that, the feedback from the guests is important element to improve the hotel performance. For example, hotel can provide some survey cards to the guests to get the real-world feedback from customers directly.
04 Operation of hotel
For the operation of hotel, manager should plan and set an objective before set up a budget for hotel. You have to create an operating budget and bookkeeping. Other than that, hotel manager should build a good relationship with stakeholder, including suppliers, co-workers, and so on.Besides, hotel manager should brand your hotel by planning a marketing plan to promote your hotel. You can arrange some upcoming promotions and events to bring up the customer flow, especially during the festival season.
05 Monitoring progress in hotel daily
Monitoring is a part of important task in hotel management. This is because the performance of hotel should be maintained in certain standard or improving standard. Keep on eyes on the customer feedback through face-to-face or online.In the other hand, staff performance should be monitored. When staff performance is maintained, they will be keep in track for their duties every day. There is a necessary for the routine schedule for checking such as heating and cooling systems, plumbing, and appliances in the kitchen as well.
